Amine Gas Sweetening

Natural gas extracted from reservoirs typically contains varying amounts of undesirable gases, such as Hydrogen Sulfide and Carbon Dioxide. These compounds have harmful effects, with corrosion of downstream equipment being one of the most significant issues. In addition, Hydrogen Sulfide is highly toxic and flammable, posing considerable safety risks. The presence of Carbon Dioxide in natural gas also reduces its heating value. Therefore, due to the adverse effects of these gases, their removal from the natural gas stream is essential. This process is known as gas sweetening. Amine-based sweetening is considered one of the most economical and widely used methods on an industrial scale. Various amines, including MEA, DEA, and MDEA, are utilized in the gas sweetening process.
